Keiko Sawada
An English speaking guide living in Aso.
I was born and raised in Tottori Prefecture and lived in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Kanagawa before moving to Takamori Town in Aso in 2011. Takamori Town is located on the eastern side of the southern basin of the Aso Caldera, near the borders with Oita and Miyazaki Prefectures. It serves as the source for three major rivers in Kyushu.
When I first moved here, I was amazed by the beauty of the landscape every single day. I use a private car to get around Aso, and no matter where you drive within the Aso Caldera, the scenery is always breathtaking.
This area is blessed with wide open skies, fields, ample space, abundant spring water, nice foods —everything that makes for a rich and fulfilling life. Additionally, as someone who loves nature, I greatly appreciate being close to trailheads and having easy access to mountains and rivers.
<Guide Certification>
Driven by my passion for nature and country life, I began working as an Aso UNESCO Global Geopark Guide in 2018, with the goal of sharing the wonders of Aso with visitors. To further share the region’s traditional lifestyles, culture, and sustainable living practices with international guests, I obtained qualifications as a regional interpreter guide for Aso and Taketa City (Kuju area) and started to work as English speaking guide in 2021. I also hold certifications as a Stage 2 Mountaineering Guide from the Japan Mountain Guides Association and as an RAC Shower Climbing Guide. Now I guide sightseeing tour and trekking tours centered around Aso, Kujū and Takachiho.
I am excited to run enjoyable tours that allow you to experience the beauty of Aso, as well as the neighboring areas of Kujū and Takachiho.
I look forward to meeting you!
